Lehigh Valley Apollo trainFeb 08, 2012
Here is an O Gauge version of an Lehigh Valley Apollo train. The lead locomotive is a Lionel Lehigh Valley ALCo Century 420. This locomotive was released by Lionel in 2004. Some of it's features include TMCC, Railsounds, Odyssey speed control, ElectroCouplers, and a fan driven smoke unit which wasn't used in this video. The other two locomotives are both unpowered. One is a MTH Electric Trains Railking Scale Lehigh Valley GP9 and the second is a Weaver Models Lehigh Valley GP38. The piggyback cars in this train are made by MTH and the caboose is by Weaver Models. The Apollo trains on the Lehigh Valley were made up mostly of piggyback and container cars received from the Norfolk and Western in Buffalo, New York. The Apollo trains ran the length of the Valley, from Buffalo to Oak Island Yard in Newark, New Jersey. The Lehigh Valley started this service in 1970 and named these trains after the Apollo space missions during that time. Both the Valley and N&W used run through power on these trains. Lehigh Valley locomotives could be seen as far west as Bellevue, Ohio on the Norfolk and Western. And Norfolk and Western power was used east on the Valley to Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Unloading Lehigh Valley #95100 - TimelapseJan 23, 2012
Rescued from a scrap yard, ex-Lehigh Valley Railroad caboose #95100 is unloaded at the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. The R&GVRRM plans to restore the #95100 back to service on the museum's demonstration railroad, and this was the first step of getting the caboose out of the scrap yard, back to the museum, and placed back on its trucks on active rail. The museum succeeded as seen here in this timelapse video of the caboose being unloaded. Next up will be a move of the caboose to the R&GVRRM's restoration shop where work will start in earnest over the winter. Donations are welcome to help with the restoration.
